It's All About the Plants --- Especially Yours
Plants are fascinating lifeforms that approach the whole idea of gathering energy in a different fashion than animals. They were here first and have dramatically changed the Earth countless times. Whole groups of animals have been wiped out when a measley species of plant dies out -- not only herbivores but carnivores as well. On top of that, plants come in a wide variety of shapes, colors, and textures.
So it's no wonder people have an affinity for the plant.
For some, the plant is a pleasing piece of "living decoration." Slowly changing as the days go by. Living its life, content to bask in the light of a nearby window or soothing lamp.
For others, a plant can be an interesting science project. They are alive and do respond to changes in water, temperature, soil, and light. Most plants can respond to changes in about a day. Others, like the touch-me-not, even faster. Over the course of a few weeks or months, a dramatic change can be seen.
Then some species of plants provide food or some medicinal properties. These plants have earned their keep with humans -- in mainsteam industry or even in a cozy homestead or urban lifestyle.
So whatever your reason for having a plant, feel free to share. If you have your eyes set on other kinds of plants, whether it be the miniature rose in the store you saw last weekend or the grand desire to have fifteen species of cactus, we won't judge. In fact, we'll probably raise a hand and say "Me too."
